染付 蛸唐草文 Tako-Karakusa

本当かどうかは分からないが、骨董屋の主人によると、このタコ唐草文様は、かなり古い手なのらしい。線の太さ、唐草の巻き方を見ればだいたい分かる、と。タコ唐草は古伊万里の中でもなにか特別な文様のような気がする。ほかの古伊万里の器にくらべて、なにか威厳のようなものを感じる。その青山の骨董屋の主人も、去年か一昨年かに亡くなってしまった。

The antique shop's owner said this Tako-Karakusa (octopus-leg arabesque) was an older design. He knew it by thickness of lines and the way of curl. I think Tako-Karakusa is a special pattern in Old Imari ware. It has a higher status than others. The owner of the shop in Aoyama, Tokyo, passed away last year or two years ago.
