アーカンソーの苦灰石と黄銅鉱 Dolomite, Chalcopyrite from Arkansas

湾曲するピンク色の苦灰石（CaMg(CO₃)₂）の結晶の集合に微小な黄銅鉱（CuFeS₂）が散りばめられる。苦灰石は絹織物のような光沢があり、光の当たり具合によって白く見える。透明な方解石（CaCO₃）の結晶も何個かつく。すでに紹介済みの赤谷の苦灰石も光沢があるが、表面はザラザラ感がある。この産地は、古生代前期の古い石灰岩・苦灰岩の層をおもなターゲットとする採石場のようだが、ところどころ硫化鉱物をともなう晶洞があって、このようなきれいな標本を産出するらしい。

Tiny chalcopyrite crystals are sprinkled on a pink dolomite cluster. Dolomite crystal surface is curved (saddle shape) and has a luster like silks. There are also small transparent calcite crystals. A previously shown Akatani's dolomite is also lustrous but the texture is rather rough. This locality is a quarry targeting Paleozoic limestone and dolostone, and there seem to be a few pockets in which such crystals grow with sulfides.
