沖縄の旅 A Trip to Okinawa
はじめて沖縄に行った。写真は糸満市の平和祈念資料館の最上階からながめた沖縄の海。このあたりは石灰岩の台地で、海岸は崖になっている。沖縄の石灰岩台地にはガマ（洞穴）が至るところにあり、沖縄戦ではそこで幾多の痛ましいできごとがあった。
I went to Okinawa for the first time. The photo is a view from the top floor of Okinawa Prefectural Peace Memorial Museum, Itoman City. This area is a limestone flatland, and the seashore becomes a cliff. Many caves in Okinawa's limestone area became the places of tragedy during the Battle of Okinawa.
いままでなんだかんだで沖縄に行ったことがなかったが、思い立って旅に出た。朝一の飛行機で那覇空港に降り立ち、まずは沖縄県平和祈念資料館で沖縄戦の歴史を学んだ。昼ごはんは「屋宜屋」というたいへん趣のある古民家そば屋で、おいしいアーサそばとジューシーをいただいた。建物は国の登録有形文化財に指定されているそうだ。その後おきなわワールドという施設内の鍾乳洞を見学して紅型（びんがた）のコースターづくり体験などして楽しんだ。それから那覇市内の国際通りでぶらぶらお店を見て、夜は居酒屋で沖縄料理。翌日、うるま市の具志川ドームでおこなわれた沖縄巡業をみた（これが旅の目的だった）。うるま市は相撲が盛んな土地のようで、美ノ海と木崎海の兄弟はここの出身である。会場の具志川ドームは相撲場として2009年に建設され、ここ数年は沖縄巡業が12月にここでおこなわれている。以前、関東でおこなわれた巡業を見にいったことがあるが、沖縄巡業はのんびりした雰囲気でとてもよかった。碧山の表彰式を見届けたあと、すぐさま美ら海水族館へ。ジンベイザメの泳ぐ大水槽はやっぱりすごかった。
沖縄の旅でもっとも印象に残ったのは、民家の塀や土台や敷石にふんだんにつかわれている石灰岩である。実にうつくしく、沖縄の風土にマッチしている。わたしの一番好きな鉱物は方解石ということで決定した。
I went to the Peace Memorial Museum soon after the earliest flight to Naha Airport to know details of Okinawa's history and occurrences in the Pacific War. Then I took a lunch at Yagiya, an Okinawan old-house noodle restaurant, and went to "Okinawa World" to see a cave and to experience bingata (dyeing). After that, I went to Kokusai-Dori street, Naha City, and had Okinawan cuisine. Next day I saw the Grand Sumo Okinawa Basho at Gushikawa Dome Arena, Uruma City, and Churaumi Aquarium. I am very impressed at limestones that are used for every wall, floor and cornerstone, and are in harmony with Okinawan nature and culture.
