ミネラフロントを見学 Minerafront Museum
昨年（2023年）5月に開館した「ミネラフロント」を見学する機会を得た。これは東京大学工学部と千葉工業大学とが共同で企画・運営している一種の博物館で、おもに日本の金属鉱山の鉱石・鉱物標本を展示している。場所は東京都文京区の東大工学部３号館の４階で、SITE 1 と SITE 2 という2つの部屋にわかれている。前者は平日であればだれでも見学できる。後者は月１回程度、不定期に開館している。直近だと2024年7月22日、8月6・7日の午後が訪問可能で、その後は未定。
SITE 2 には日本各地の鉱石・鉱物標本が展示されている。とくに細倉、尾去沢、松峰、釈迦内、足尾、神岡の各鉱山の標本はかなり充実している。国立科学博物館みたいな網羅的な展示ではないが、逆にひとつの産地のいろいろな鉱物種が並んでいて見ごたえがある。本質的なことではないが、什器や照明が立派で、標本をよく引き立てている。半分くらいの標本のラベルには寄贈者の名前がはいっているが、篤志も報われるというものだ。写真撮影不可なので詳細を伝えることはできないが、鉱物ファンならちょっと足を止めたくなるような標本がいくつもある。たとえば足尾の蛍石、燐灰石、黄銅鉱はたいへん美麗だし、多数ある細倉の標本も、蛍石をともなう亜鉛・鉛鉱石、様々な晶相をみせる方解石の他、輝安鉱や斑銅鉱などは小品ながらかなりめずらしいものとおもわれる。
SITE1 は鉱石・鉱物標本の概要的な展示と、日本近海の海底に眠る金属資源に関する展示、最近の研究成果の紹介からなる。「しんかい6500」で試料を採取する映像が興味深い。こちらは撮影可、とホームページに書いてあったので、以下に写真をいくつか載せる。
I visited "Minerafront", the museum of mineral resources frontier, established in May 2023 by Faculty of Engineering, University of Tokyo, and Chiba Institute of Technology. It is located on the 4th floor of Engineering Building 3, University of Tokyo, in Bunkyo-Ku, Tokyo. There are two rooms, SITE 1 and SITE 2, the former being open from Monday to Friday, but the entry to the latter is limited. The forthcoming opening dates are July 22, and August 6 and 7, 2024.
The Site 2 exhibits Japanese ore and mineral specimens especially from the Hosokura, Osarizawa, Matsumine, Shakanai, Ashio, and Kamioka Mines. It is meaningful to see various mineral species from a certain mining district. I thought that the museum's facilities and lighting were effective for enhancing value of exhibits, most of which were donations by companies and individuals. There will be many specimens where a serious mineral collector wants to stop to see intently. Ashio's fluorite, apatite, and chalcopyrite are beautiful. There are many Hosokura's specimens such as lead-zinc ores cooccurring with fluorite and calcite that shows various crystal habits. Stibnite and bornite would be rare in Hosokura.
The SITE 1 is an introductory exhibition of Japanese mineral resources, especially focusing on metals on the deep sea floor near Japan. A movie showing the Shinkai 6500 collected ore samples at a deep sea floor was interesting. The following photos show some of the exhibits in the SITE 1.
展示室は大学の研究室がならぶフロアの一角にあり、一瞬、自分が不審者に該当するのではないかという不安感がよぎる。大学構内は原則として関係者以外立ち入り禁止だが、良識ある人間に対しては基本そこまでやかましいことは言わないので、さほど心配はいらない。学生の控室から麻雀パイをじゃらじゃらする音が聞こえてきたりして、なにか懐かしさ、ほほえましさをおぼえた訪問であった。
The exhibition rooms were located on the same floor as lecture rooms and laboratories. A visiter may feel out of place, but Todai is basically friendly to any persons with a lot of common sense. It was enjoyable to see many beautiful mineral specimens, hearing a noisy sound of mahjong tiles that students played with in other room.
