竹の図をやや青黒い感じのする呉須で４面に描く。古伊万里の猪口にありがちなモチーフではあるが、おもしろいのは胴紐を一本まわして竹の節をあらわし、さらに上下に竹の図を分割して互い違いに並べているところ。具象的な竹の描き方と、これを大胆に裁断して上下に配置する抽象性との融合に、江戸のデザインの高みを感じる。

Bamboo trees are painted on four faces with a slightly blackish blue glaze. The bamboo motif is common in the old Imari wares, but this one is unique in sculptural representation of a bamboo joint at which the bamboo picture is separated. It is noble of unknown craftsmen in the Edo period to arrange the separated bamboo pieces in a way like an abstract art.
