筍掘り図 のぞき猪口 Bamboo Shoot Hunting

中国三国時代（3世紀頃）の呉の人である孟宗が寒中に筍をとって母親に与えたという「雪中の筍」の故事にちなんだ猪口を2個入手した。

I obtained two Imari cups relating to a story that Meng Zong, a Chinese government official living in the third century, went out for bamboo shoots in a winter cold day to give them to his mother.

ひとつ目

18世紀末〜19世紀前半　From the end of 18th century to early 19th century
口径 top width: 50 mm / 高さ height: 54 mm / 高台径 bottom width: 41 mm

1個目は染付ののぞき猪口。傘をかぶり、鍬（くわ）をかついだ、すね丸出しの（または脚絆みたいなのを巻いた）人物がちょうど竹の子をみつけた場面を描写している。竹の葉っぱの描き方は18世紀後半以降の古伊万里に特有のもの。印判で表現するケースもあるが、この作品は手描きである。先週の平和島骨董市で手に入れた。和骨董専門の業者でなかったので相場より安かった。

This is a blue-and-white nozoki-type cup showing a scene in which Meng Zong finally found bamboo shoots. The bamboo leaves are expressed in a unique way that was popular after the late 18th century. I obtained this cup at Heiwajima Antique Fair last week. The price was relatively low because the shop didn't specialize Japanese antiques.

ふたつ目

19世紀　19th century
口径 top width: 51 mm / 高さ height: 57 mm / 高台径 bottom width: 39 mm

2個目は染付＋色絵ののぞき猪口。絵柄はひとつ目とほぼおなじ。高台内側に一重の圏線が引かれ、いわゆる渦福の銘が描かれている。この意匠は本来なら17世紀〜18世紀初頭のものだが、この作品は縁の裏側が簡略化された二重線であることも含め、器全体の雰囲気からしてあきらかに19世紀のものだ。おそらく幕末期に150年以上前の古伊万里の意匠を真似て、ある種の復古趣味として生産されたものだろう。この猪口はヤフオクで入手した代物で、出品者の素性もよくわからず、もしかしたら贋作（現代作）？という一抹の不安がある。

This one is almost the same but decorated with color glazes. There is a single blue circle at the bottom and a pottery's mark at the center, which was characteristic in the 17th century Imari cups. However, this cup was apparently made in the 19th century, probably imitating the old style. I found this cup at an internet auction. I can't prove it was not a modern fake.

付記

19世紀古伊万里で、高台内に一重の圏線と銘が描かれた猪口の例がもうひとつあるので参考までに紹介する。

幕末期の古伊万里特有の濃い青色の呉須で丸文とそのなかに馬に乗った人物を描く。縁には鉄釉がほどこされ、側面の上側1/3には凝った文様がぐるりと描かれるなど、この時代の猪口としては上手の作品といえる。下の写真のとおり、高台内に一重の圏線と渦福銘が描かれる。右側が前掲の色絵筍掘りの猪口。どちらも19世紀の古伊万里だが、まれにこのような意匠がみられるようだ。

This is another 19th-century Imari cup with a single blue circle at the bottom. There might be a fashion in the mid 19th century to respect the old Imari style.

この猪口も先週の平和島骨董市で手に入れた。前に何度か買ったことのあるなじみの業者だったので気がゆるんだのか、縁にニューがあるのを見落としてしまった。おそらく業者も気づいていなかったのだろう。みなさんも古伊万里を買う際はかならずキズを確認し、できれば店主にも念をおしてみてください。

骨董市に関していえばお客さんの数も以前に戻りつつあると感じた。これから外国人観光客も増えれば、また活気が出てくるだろう。帰りは近くにある東京港野鳥公園に寄ってみた。 wikipedia によるとここは東京湾に昔からあった天然の干潟、湿地ではなく、埋め立て地の一角を造成した人工の公園である。しかし開園から数十年たち、ぱっと見には自然の海岸と遜色ない風景がたのしめる。
