水仙文猪口 Daffodils Cup

口径 top width 72 mm / 高台径 bottom width 50 mm / 高さ height 57 mm

いわゆる上げ底タイプのそば猪口で、口縁部はそれほどでもないが、下部から底部にかけて厚みが増していく。素焼きを省略した生掛けで、釉にあたたかみがある。大ざっぱな感じにスイセン（カキツバタかハナショウブという説もある）を正面に二株、裏面に一株えがく。水平に筋がはいっているが、これはろくろでひいた跡だろう。高台がややひしゃげているのは、土が温度に耐えられなかったのか。これらすべて含めて、素朴な味わいを感じる。初期手のそば猪口ともいい、製作年代は17世紀末〜18世紀前半であろう。

This soba-choko cup is called an age-zoko (raised-bottom) type, having a thicker basement than the top part. The glaze without pre-baking gives a warm feeling. Two daffodils (someone says it's iris) are drawn simply on one side and one on the other side. The horizontal lines may be caused by the potter's wheel. The bottom-most part is deformed probably due to high temperature in the kiln. These elements are enough to express a natural, primitive and simple beauty. This kind of cup is also called an early-stage soba-choko, produced in the end of the 17th century to the early 18th century.
