ナイカの方鉛鉱 Galena from Naica

ずっしりした方鉛鉱の塊。結晶表面はまるで溶けたように丸みを帯びる部分がある。成長丘（融解丘というべきか？）の紋様がおもしろい。方解石や少量の黄鉄鉱、黄銅鉱をともなう。方解石の一部がオレンジ色になっているが、これは黄鉄鉱、黄銅鉱が変質して鉄がにじみ出たことによるものだろう。

ナイカ鉱山は、長さ 10 m にもおよぶ巨大石膏結晶が林立する洞窟の存在が今世紀初頭にあきらかになって有名になったが、もともとは銀、鉛、亜鉛等を産出した歴史ある鉱山。近年まで稼行していたが現在は休山中のようである。石灰岩層を交代したいわゆるスカルンの鉱山で、チムニー状およびマント状の金属鉱床を採掘した。mindat.org によれば 100 種類以上の鉱物がここで見いだされている。

A massive piece of galena associated with calcite and some pyrite and chalcopyrite. Galena's surface is partly rounded as if it were melted after crystalized. The pattern of growing (or melting) layers is interesting. The orange color of calcite is probably caused by iron effused from oxidized pyrite and chalcopyrite. The Naica Mine became famous after the discovery of Cave of the Crystals that was occupied by giant gypsum crystals to 10 m in length, but it had been a historical silver, lead and zinc mine in Mexico that was active until recently. It is the skarn mine and the chimney- and manto-shaped metal deposits were mined. Mindat.org says more than 100 mineral species have been found from there.

一度結晶した方鉛鉱が徐々に融解したときにできた文様（蝕像？）なのかもしれない。空から見た棚田みたいだ。
The pattern might be created in gradually melting after crystalized. It is like a rice farm on a hill.
