尾去沢の黄銅鉱と白鉄鉱 Chalcopyrite and Marcasite from Osarizawa

尾去沢の石英・銅鉱脈の晶洞を代表するような標本。こまかい銀白色のつぶつぶが黄銅鉱にふりかかってキラキラしている。これは白鉄鉱の結晶で、ほとんどが双晶をなし丸っこい形をしている。以前紹介した標本とよく似ている。まず黄銅鉱と石英とがほぼ同時に結晶し、その後より低温の熱水が侵入して白鉄鉱が晶出したものだろう（黄鉄鉱はより高温な環境で、白鉄鉱はより低温な環境で安定とされる）。白鉄鉱が黄銅鉱のみにくっついていて、石英は比較的きれいななままなのが興味深い。

A kind of representative specimen from a cavity in quartz-copper veins in Osarizawa. Chalcopyrite crystals are covered with minute silver-white marcasite that largely form twins like those already shown. It would be probable that chalcopyrite and quartz crystalized first and then marcasite in a lower-temperature circumstance. It is interesting that marcasite seems not to prefer quartz.

黄銅鉱の結晶はなかなか大粒で径 1 cm オーバー、最大で 2 cm ほどある。耳付き双晶がみられる。
Chalcopyrite crystals are as large as 1 to 2 cm in size, some forming a penetration twin with "ears".

以前紹介した黄銅鉱の標本も結晶表面に微細な別の鉱物がふりかかっていたが、あれも当初は白鉄鉱だったかもしれない。さらにそれが銅藍とか輝銅鉱とか青黒い鉱物に変質したのだろう。

I have shown a similar chalcopyrite specimen that was also covered by very small crystals of different species. I guess those would be marcasite, and covellite or chalcocite altered from it.
